Schools and districts around the nation serving at-risk kids have been on a fast track trying to fix ongoing academic failures. Numerous changes to policy, testing requirements, standards, curricula, and school models have come and gone but the achievement gap still looms large, with students and teachers on test-overload with no great gains to show for it. Meanwhile, the research clearly points to within-reach solutions: excellent teachers! Education research overwhelmingly shows that teacher quality is the primary determinant of student success.

With teachers largely left out of national conversations about policy and fixing our educational failures, ‘The Irreplaceables’ aims to give Teachers a voice. The high rates of teacher turnover among new and urban school teachers is at a crisis point. As a nation we must redefine our most important profession and give teaching back to Teachers. Without this, ‘we will be building a generation that’s designed to fail.
