Finding Grover (2007)
Finding Grover documents of a day walking across the National Pawnee Grasslands of North Eastern Colorado. I spent a day and evening wandering alone in an attempt to rediscover and capture the joy of both looking and seeing, which in my opinion are not the same thing. I took a 36 hour vow of silence in an attempt to sink more fully into the hush of solitude and to submit to my only other companions – the constant wind and sun of the high plains. When shooting Finding Grover, I had no expectations and it was only meant to express my own quiet communion with a slower pace, and the unique experience of this landscape. A landscape that strips away a sense of self and confronts one with history and scale in such a way that one truly understands; we are blades of grass clinging halfway between heaven and earth.
